New RoS High School Program Flyer

DESIGN PROSE

Organization: Rose of Sharon Services For Young Mothers

Mediums: InDesign, Photoshop, Canva

Styles & Techniques: Publication/Print Design, Social Media Marketing

In addition to my main projects during my contract, I was also tasked with updating and creating various program flyers, as well as designing animated thank-you posts and stories for our generous grant funders this past summer. Since I am more familiar with social media platforms than my colleagues, I was asked to create a formal social media guide for them to use in my absence. Due to my consistently high-quality work, I was informed that I would be commissioned in the future to create additional publications and design templates for Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers.

HIGH SCHOOL FLYER

HIGH SCHOOL FLYER

New RoS High School Program Flyer

As part of the revamp for Parents Connect.ca, I was tasked with creating a new flyer for the Rose of Sharon High School Program, which would be showcased on its dedicated page in the Resource Portal. My objective was to design a flyer that aligned closely with the brand's identity.

The updated flyer prominently features Rose of Sharon's official colours and font style (Muller), along with the High School Program's icon. It also includes a large photograph that was previously used on the Parents Connect.ca page, offering a clear preview of the program’s services. The warm tones in the photograph complement the shades of pink used in the flyer.

Using a variety of shades, rather than just burgundy, helps the flyer avoid a flat appearance and prevents any visual discord that could arise from overly contrasting colours. Additionally, the use of gradient feather effects gives the flyer a softer, more vibrant look.

To enhance readability, the updated flyer effectively organizes the information and includes clear headings.

DAD TALK POST

DAD TALK POST

June Wrap-Up Dad Talk Advert

The updated Dad Talk social media flyer was created in Canva, with an emphasis on including sufficient white space for the program's information. Additionally, I wanted to showcase a photograph that represented the diverse clientele of Rose of Sharon. It was a challenge to find stock photographs of diverse fathers and children that also had enough white space for the necessary text. Therefore, I had to get creative and remove the background from one selected photo. The final choice was of a father and daughter in a brightly lit room, which complemented the chosen wall background nicely.

For displaying the Dad Talk information, I opted to use items that are typically associated with jotting down to-do lists and keeping track of upcoming events. Handwriting-style fonts were chosen to add a "human" and casual touch to the flyer. It was also important to indicate that the Dad Talk events would be concluding for the year. I included a maple leaf placed between the pages of the notebook to signify that events would resume in the fall. Additionally, the final post features the hashtags used, all of which are currently garnering significant attention.

MOMMY & ME FLYER

MOMMY & ME FLYER

Mommy & Me Flyer

This Mommy & Me flyer was created in Canva to facilitate future edits and the inclusion of various elements. Unlike most of my assignments at Rose of Sharon, I was instructed to maintain the established colour scheme and format of the Mommy & Me flyers and publications. However, I was also told to organize the information more neatly and to add decorations and accents that would enhance the flyer’s overall appeal.

Similar to the High School Program flyer mentioned earlier, I incorporated a side border to display standard information, including the event's location ("Where"), date and time ("When"), and contact information. I also used clear, bold headings and underlined text to improve aesthetics and enhance clarity for the reader.

For decorative fonts and accents, I chose a bubbly font called Borsok, which is large and eye-catching, drawing attention to the event's name. Additionally, I planned to place a variety of baby toys around the event title to reflect the playful nature of the activity. This not only adds a whimsical touch but also helps balance the bright and contrasting colour scheme of the Mommy & Me program.

THANK YOU TO GRANT FUNDERS

THANK YOU TO GRANT FUNDERS

These Stories and Posts were created to express gratitude to the organizations that provided grant funding, specifically for Rose of Sharon's new Living & Learning Together program. The logo I designed is displayed in the Stories and Posts below. To reflect their connection to the Living & Learning Together program, two different photographs of young mothers caring for their children were used as header images for each message. These photographs were blended seamlessly into the overall template.

Various design elements were employed to achieve this integration, including cropped images, stylized borders, and paint streaks and splatters in the Johansen-Larsen Story and Post. Low-transparency, light-colored overlays and feathered gradients were used to subtly meld the photographs with the template's background and other elements. The bubbly and wavy accents were specifically chosen to enhance the playful nature of the Stories and Posts.

Additionally, both posts feature backgrounds resembling the plastic table coverings typically used by young children. This design choice is particularly fitting for the Johansen-Larsen post, as many of the organization's initiatives and events are centered around creating artwork. The templates reflect both the goals and activities of Rose of Sharon and the Johansen-Larsen Foundation.

Overall, the aim was to achieve a formal yet fresh and vibrant aesthetic that aligns with the brand for both the Stories and Posts versions of these thank-you messages.

SHARE YOUR STORY CONCEPT

SHARE YOUR STORY

When asked to create a few social media concepts for Rose of Sharon, the first idea that came to mind was "Share Your Story." This concept involves reaching out to both former and current users of Rose of Sharon’s services to gather descriptions or short interviews about their experiences and success stories. I envision organizing bi-weekly reel interviews or creating two to three slides that capture their dialogue with detailed yet concise answers.

For slideshow interviews, it would be ideal to include photographs of the mothers, and possibly their children, especially if the mothers are comfortable sharing these images. If not, we can use generic stock images related to parenting and babies as an alternative. To further promote inclusivity and neutralize Rose of Sharon’s brand, we may also consider reaching out to fathers and other guardians who are willing to share their experiences.

To ensure variety, we should interview participants from different programs within Rose of Sharon. Particular emphasis should be placed on the High School Program, as this group needs the most support and de-stigmatization, highlighting the importance of sharing stories and experiences for comfort and encouragement.

Slideshow Interview Mockup

For a slideshow interview like this, we need at least four pictures of the interviewee. If she prefers not to have her image used, we can substitute it with four similar stock images. The main goal of the interview would be for the interviewee to share her experiences with the program authentically.

Reel Interview Mockup

This type of interview requires only one photo from the interviewee for the title slide. It is best suited for individuals who are comfortable discussing their experiences and do not wish to remain anonymous. Regarding the links on the closing slide, the samples slides below depict a fictitious interviewee who represents Rosie's Closet Resource Room and would share her experiences with the Group Programs. Therefore, the relevant links will be displayed on the closing slide.

Story Mockups

The Share Your Story Q&A Poll would be launched on the first day of each month and again two weeks later. The Share Your Story series, in particular, would occur bi-weekly. A "Questions" sticker, available in Instagram's sticker bank, would be used for participants to submit their input and answers. For those not familiar with Rose of Sharon's programs, a list of these programs would be available on the left. Once an interviewee has been selected, the Story advertising the interview would ideally be shared daily to keep followers informed.

Q&A MONDAYS CONCEPT

Q&A MONDAYS

For my "Q&A Mondays" concept, a Story would be posted every Monday morning, featuring a question box in the bottom left corner. This would allow readers to submit their questions, which the personnel at Rose of Sharon will have a full week to answer.

The following Monday, the Q&A Mondays posts would be shared on Rose of Sharon's Instagram wall, containing answers to questions submitted by readers in the previous week’s Story question box. If there are more questions than can fit on the first slide, additional space would be available on a second slide for further questions and detailed answers. This second slide format can be used multiple times if necessary to accommodate all questions.

The final slide would inform readers where to submit more questions for next week's post. Similar to the "Share Your Story" initiative, this series aims to enhance Rose of Sharon's outreach and create more opportunities to promote their services.
