As Head Illustration Coordinator at UTM Scribes, I collaborated on Slate VII: GRIT (2022), the seventh volume of its annual creative journal. Slate is a collection of short stories, poems, art and photography by UTM students (all proceeds donated to Doctors Without Borders). I designed the book cover for Slate VII, as well as worked with the executive team to develop ideas and create artwork for promotions and events. I also managed the illustration and photography team to ensure that all was completed on time.

FRONT COVER DESIGN

The theme for this year's volume was "grit," meaning an individual's willingness and passion toward perseverance, no matter the obstacles that stand in their way, I therefore chose to create a cover displaying a young woman succeeding in climbing up a tall Everest-like mountain, where birds swoop the skies above. The happily flying birds were to add an extra element of succeeding and enjoying the fruits of your labour.
BACKGROUND CREATION

I thought that a lovely effect would be made by lowering the transparency of the blue sky to have a background consisting of a collage of all the illustrations within the publication. Created in Canva, I believed that this collage would add to the design's emotional impact, particularly what is within reach in one's life once one has overcome all of its trials and tribulations.
